WHEN CAN WE START?

10 - 12 weeks after surgery for the main work that I do, but I can treat more gently and do supportive treatment from day 2 or 3.

There's no maximum time limit, your scar tissue can still improve many years after surgery.

If you've had radiation, then it's a much longer wait. Irradiated tissues needs 6 months to recover before I can start scar work.

DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING SPECIAL TO PREPARE FOR A SESSION?

This depends entirely on you - how your body responds, and what result you're looking for. You should be able to feel a difference within a few minutes of me working on an area, but different bodies respond at different speeds. Sometimes the first session is tough going, and then by the second session everything just melts. You get to decide how many sessions you want, and how frequently, based on your needs.

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?

Sometimes the first session is tough going, and then by the second session everything just melts. You get to decide how many sessions you want, and how frequently, based on your needs. If you just want to get rid of your pain, you might only need a couple of sessions, but if you're looking for symmetry after radiation it'll take longer. You will have an improvement with one session.

WILL HEALTH INSURANCE COVER THE SESSION?

If your insurer covers physiotherapy, then they should cover scar release work. It's a form of soft tissue physiotherapy treatment, and I always incorporate multiple treatment methods. Your insurer might insist on a referral letter, but this is their requirement, not mine. It's always best just to phone your insurer and ask about physiotherapy coverage. If you need a referral letter, keep it simple and ask for treatment for your pain or dysfunction.
